Information about caring for the elderly is the focus of a series of presentations being sponsored by Saint Francis University’s Campus Ministry. On February 4, 2009, CERMUSA staff gave a presentation on their research into the use of telehealth and telemedicine with the elderly. Topics discussed included CERMUSA's collaboration with Blueroof Technologies, Inc., a non-profit corporation located in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, to integrate telemedicine and telerehabilitation technologies into Blueroof's smart-living home addition, the Blueroof Independence Module (BIM). The BIM was designed to be used by special populations, such as older adults, as a means to avoid or postpone institutional care. CERMUSA staff also demonstrated various technologies that can assist older adults, such as augmentative and alternative communication products, visual aides, and video gaming for telerehabilitation.
