How Sister Thea Impacted Me:
It is said “Giving frees us from familiar
territory of our own needs by opening our minds to the unexplained worlds
occupied by the needs of others.” Sister Thea recognized that many minorities
in the United States simply needed an education. Sister Thea was dedicated to
the ideals of a solid Catholic education, where a student not only receives the
best possible higher education, but also is nurtured and cultivated
spiritually. The Sister Thea Bowman Black Catholic Educational Foundation has
truly been a blessing to many minority boy and girls. The Foundation nourishes
its students providing guidance, both spiritually and academically until
commencement day.
As a senior in high school, the Thea Bowman Foundation came into my life like a
saving grace, extending the tremendous prospect of becoming a Thea Bowman
scholar. Fully knowledgeable of the problematic circumstances and difficulties
of my life, the Foundation supported me with open arms. I believe that in the
middle of every difficulty, lies opportunity. The Thea Bowman Foundation was my
opportunity. Sister Thea Bowman epitomizes the spirit and strength of giving.
Her heavenly sprit touches each and every individual who has crossed her path.
Sister Thea, to me, means strength, determination, inspiration, compassion and
spirituality.
Once a Thea scholar, you will always be blanketed, by what Thea scholars, call
“Thea Love”.
