Margretta
Stokes Tucker
Greta is the director of the Department for
Black Catholics, Ethnic & Cultural Communities
for the Diocese of Pittsburgh. She directs the
Office for Black Catholic Ministries and the
Office for Ethnic Ministries with the Korean,
Latino, and Vietnamese Catholic Communities, and
support to African Catholic immigrants and
refugees. Prior to
assuming this position in 1994, she served for
nine years as the Director of Religious
Education at St. Benedict the Moor Parish in the
Hill District of Pittsburgh. Greta is presently
pursuing a doctorate in Systematic Theology at
Duquesne University where she also earned a
master’s degree in Religious Education. She is
a graduate of Seton Hill College (now
University) in Greensburg, Pennsylvania where
she pursued a double major, earning a B.A. in
Psychology and in Religious Studies. After
graduation, she worked at Seton Hill as an
Admissions Counselor. Other academic pursuits
were at the Institute for Black Catholic Studies
at Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana
and the Pittsburgh Theology Seminary.
Greta has traveled to
Israel several times; where she also lived and
studied. On her last visit, she participated in
the Catholic Institute for Holocaust Studies
sponsored by the National Catholic Center for
Holocaust Education at Seton Hill University.
She serves on several local and national
boards: Crossroads Foundation, National
Catholic Center for Holocaust Education, The Sr.
Thea Bowman Black Catholic Educational
Foundation; organizations: Diocesan National
Black Catholic Congress Leadership Team and the
National Association of Black Catholic
Administrators.
She is an Associate of the
Sisters of St. Joseph of Baden, PA. Married and
the mother of one daughter, Greta and her family
live in Pittsburgh where they are active
parishioners at St. Benedict the Moor Parish. |
